Digital 101: Opacity Painting

Step 1
Okay we're now ready to paint. I almost never start with a white background, so I fill the background a pale green. I then use a darker green to start "blocking" in the image. My idea is to create a forest type image with trees around the outside going from darker around the outside to lighter in the middle.

Notice how, due to the opacity and pressure, I get a variety of shades of the darker green even though I am only using one color. At this point I'm using a pretty big brush (around 25 pixels) and trying to be very relaxed and loose with my lines. I want to get the feeling of the image in at this stage.
